Mexico's Only Hot Springs Spa -- Rio Caliente Spa Near Guadalajara
Rio Caliente Spa near Guadalajara is the only true hot springs spa in Mexico. The Hotel / Spa Ixtapan de la Sal no longer has hot springs. Rio Caliente Spa is a holistic spa -- a vegetarian spa. Rio Caliente Spa is inexpensive and perhaps the best place (spa, hot spring or just plain great place) in Mexico to mellow out. "Mexico" Mike has been going to Rio Caliente for more than 20 years and he is a newcomer. Much of Rio Caliente's business is from repeat customers. Mexican hot springs are usually simple balnearios. Rio Caliente Spa is a real spa. Rio Caliente is a vegetarian spa, but meat-eaters won't starve. The vegetarian food is actually rather good. There are always interesting people giving lectures there. Heck, they even asked me to speak there! The woods surrounding the Rio Caliente Spa are great for birding as well as hiking.

I revisited Rio Caliente after my house fire. I was in serious need of some emotional healing and spiritual rebuilding. They took me in with open arms and the atmosphere healed me enough to start over once again in my life. I can't think of any better testimonial to such a truly special place.
Rio Caliente spa is more spiritual in nature than your average spa. Rio Caliente attracts an interesting clientele of people, most of whom are into "New Age" philosophies. Still they allow me to come there, so they are pretty accepting. It is a nonsmoking environment, but if you need to partake, -- go out to the river away from everyone else.
