These 5 pages could save you a world of aggravation if you are driving to Belize or Guatemala. I tell you which crossing you may use and which one you HAVE to use under certain circumstances. Brownsville may not be your best choice.

You should get a link via email (after you order), the correct procedure to cancel either your car permits or your tourist permit, or both. The tourist permit can be taken care of right away. The car permit takes 6 months.

I recently updated this and it now covers the contingencies of your being still in Mexico with expired permits and what to do if you have sold your car in the USA.

If you did not turn in or cancel your vehicle permit, you must do so before returning to Mexico. If you cannot drive back to the border, the process is lengthy - it could take 6 months, so if you do not have 6 months to wait, DO NOT ORDER IT.

What you get is a name, phone number and email of the correct department in Mexico City to handle this.

I will also tell you what to do about your immigration permit (FMT or tourist card). That is easier to handle and does not take time, only money.
